The London Diaspora Meeting with the Newly Appointed Ambassador to the UK

The Ethiopian Diaspora in Great Britain held a successful meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador at 17 Princes Gate, Knightsbridge, London SW7 1PZ, in London. This inspiring and long-awaited meeting was held inside the London Ethiopian Embassy on 16 March 2019. The Newly Appointed Ambassador to the UK Mr Fesseha Shawel, his Deputy and other new Staff members made impressive speeches to the gathering. Ambassador Fesseha Shawel accepted the detachment of the diaspora from the Ethiopian Embassy for the last 27 Years, apologised for the mistakes made by the previous regime and pledged to open the door of the Embassy for all Ethiopians without segregation based on ethnic lines as it had been done in the last 2.5 Decades.

Ambassador Fesseha Shawel also pointed out the importance of the long existing bilateral relationship between Ethiopia and the United Kingdom and urged the Ethiopians in the UK to support the reform and the democratisation process in the country. He further called the diaspora Ethiopians to participate in pacifying and Developing Ethiopia. According to informal discussions with some participants the speech of the newly appointed ambassador is encouraging. Now the diaspora wants to see practical actions beyond the verbal rhetoric. Participants of the meeting raised variety of issue and concerns regarding the current situation of Ethiopia including ethnic conflicts, displacement of Citizens and impunity.

It is believed that the current crises are caused by the unpopular, ethnic based, ill-conceived Federal System and by the criminal remnants of TPLF and their surrogates. Participant speakers also urged the Government of Prime Minster Abiy Ahmed to bring all crime perpetrators to justice. It is well known that the divisive Constitution and the fake Federal system have been imposed against the people of Ethiopia by the Tyrant, Ethnocentric Meles Zenawi without the participation, consultation and acknowledgement of the Majority of the Ethiopian people. In addition to this there are still uncertainties in some people’s mind. Many people think that the reform is hampered by few ethnocentric remnants of TPLF and their submissive tribalists.

That is why the illegal and unrecognised flag, created by a single man (Meles Zenawi) is still imposed against the Ethiopian people as National Ethiopian flag. Ethiopian Embassies, Government bodies, and all other legal organisations and institutions must respect the Ethiopian people and their icon (Historic, legal and glorious flag) which is a symbol of Unity, Peace and Freedom. The United Ethiopian Community in the Great Britain proofed once again that their unshakeable unity is intact. Further more, this huge public gathering rejected the antiPeace minority fanatic group which was trying to divid and destabilise the Ethiopian people. Do you know that Ethiopia is the first African Country to establish an Embassy in London? Thank you for watching!
