Ethiopia and USA
The relationship between Ethiopia and the United States started in 1903 after King of Kings Menelik II and the US representative Robert P. Skinner signed a treaty of Commerce in Addis Ababa. HIM Haile Selassie first Visited the US in October 1963 and warmly received by the then great leader of USA President John F. Kennedy and the American People. The historic visit of HIM Haile Selassie I during President John F. Kennedy’s time created a strong bond between the two Friendly Countries.

Mr Herman Cohen, former US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, played a key role in 1991 negotiations between the Ethiopian Government and the Separatist rebel groups led by the criminal TPLF in London. The recommendation of that shocking decision of the US which enabled the minority TPLF to enter into Ethiopia’s Capital Addis Ababa saddened many people and still it is fresh in the memory of many Ethiopians.
